En-Suite Wet Room

Location: Upstairs, adjacent to main bedroom Size: 2.192m x 1.704m Started: April 2025

Walking in through the door:

En-suite room layout plan

  • Left wall: Block wall to landing — full shower/wet zone (500mm foam tray but tiled across entire wall)
  • Right wall: External gable wall (~10ft of wall above ceiling to ridge)
  • Back wall: Stud wall to main bathroom
  • Front wall: Stud wall to bedroom (door here)
  • Joists: Run left to right, spanning room width
  • Loft space above with full access
  • Floor tanked with proper tiles + underfloor heating in dry area
  • Walls tanked with Aquapanel installed
  • Wet room tray installed with proper fall to drain
  • Threshold raised 8mm to match hallway
  • Damp remediation - trimmed plasterboard, added base plate, foam-filled gaps (early April)
  • Full room tanking (Mapei Mapelastic AquaDefense) (April)
  • Aquapanel over backer board on walls (April)
  • Noggin frame between joists for tray support (April)
  • 1500x900mm wet room tray installed (April)
  • Temporary LVT flooring in dry area (Wickes LVT with built-in underlay) (21 April, worked till 10pm) - later replaced
  • Underfloor heating mat installed in dry area
  • Proper floor tiles laid with UFH in dry area (replaced temporary LVT)
  • Door threshold - 8mm backer board (21 April)
  • Basin pipework cutouts, sealed with sanitary silicone (21 April)
  • BIN primer under basin/toilet area (odour blocking) (April)
  • Tile strip between LVT and shower tray (light/neutral rectangular tiles)
  • Shower tray tiles - Matt R11 Mineral Gris mosaic (4.8x4.8cm, ~23 sheets) - mosaic laid 21 June (tiles twisted vs bathroom tiles, shower screen placement will hide)
  • Wall tiles/panels - Nordic style (dark walls, light floor)
  • Shower screen - 45-degree angled glass panel by door
  • Basin and toilet final install
  • Radiator (noted as priority April 2025)
  • Door - 686mm moisture-resistant, hinged, opens into wet area
  • Extractor fan installation (all equipment purchased)

Nordic/Scandinavian aesthetic:

  • Light tile strip at tray edge
  • Darker walls (anthracite/graphite)
  • Wood-effect LVT in dry zone
  • Wall panels + tiles combo
  • Boiler cupboard is 10 feet away
  • Immediately above downstairs toilet (shared soil stack)
  • Bar valve installed, temporarily fixed pending final tile depth
  • Room is 900mm wide so door max ~800mm
